Late Inning Push Propels DMACC to Sweep

#17 Iowa Lakes had the #9 DMACC Bears right where they wanted them, but a couple late inning pushes helped the Bears top the Lakers. The Lakers dropped game one 7-4 and game two 11-4. The Lakers now have an overall record of 19-6 and conference record of 6-2.

Game One: ILCC 4, DMACC 7

Game one started with a leadoff single by the Bears. Dudek then stole second and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Dudek was brought home by a Sutton fielder's choice to Hein to put the Bears up 1-0.

The Lakers got things going in the second inning with a leadoff single by Deanna Gerrard. She then stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Calkins then drove Gerrard home with a single up the middle to make the score 1-1.

DMACC had a two out rally in the third to plate another run and bring the score to 2-1. Iowa Lakes took advantage of a Bear error to score three runs in the third inning. Julia Sullwold reached on a error by the pitcher and then advanced on a Lauren Hein single. Leilani San Pedro then hit a double that was misplayed by the left fielder to score both runners and advance herself to third base. San Pedro then crossed the plate on a two out Shelby Davis double to put the Lakers up 4-1.

The Bears used the long ball to take the lead back in the fifth. They put two balls over the left center fence to take the lead 5-4. DMACC added to their lead in the seventh when they scored two runs on three hits.

Calkins picked up her first loss of the year. She allowed seven earned runs on twelve hits and three walks. Offensively, Calkins led the Lakers going 2-3 with one run batted in. San Pedro was 2-4 with a double, two runs batted in, and one run scored.

Game Two: ILCC 4, DMACC 11

The Lakers scored first in game two with a Lauren Hein homerun in the third inning. Iowa Lakes scored another run in the fourth. Blaney Markman got things started with a leadoff single. Kaitlin Walsh followed with a single up the middle that Markman went first to third on. Desiree Lopez then slapped a ball to the shortstop that Markman scored on to make the score 2-0.

DMACC got things started in the fifth inning with a one out walk. That was followed by a double to right field to put runners at second and third. A sacrifice fly then scored the runner at third, but an error on the throw to third allowed the second runner to score as well to tie the game at 2-2.

Leilani San Pedro got things started in the bottom of the fifth with a one out single. Gerrard then drove a ball off the centerfield fence to put runners at second and third. Calkins singled up the middle to score both San Pedro and Gerrard and put the Lakers up 4-2.

The Lakers took a 4-2 lead going into the sixth inning, but the Bears plated eight runs to take the 11-4 lead. Iowa Lakes could not get anything going in the last two innings.

Kaitlyn Bowman pitched the final 1.2 innings. She allowed two runs, zero earned, on three hits. Markman led the Lakers at the plate, going 2-3 with one run scored.
