Baseballl Heads to Southeastern CC

Burlington, IA- The Iowa Lakes baseball team is set to take on the Blackhawks from Southeastern Community College on March 31st and April 1st. It will be Iowa Lake's first conference series on the year while the Blackhawks opened up conference play last week against Iowa Central Community College. The Lakers are 6-13 (0-0 ICCAC), as Southeastern holds a record of 19-8 (2-2 ICCAC).

Starters Mitch Sparks and Marcel d'Avoine lead Iowa Lake's pitching staff. Sparks (2-3) holds an ERA of 3.04 through 26.2 innings with 18 strikeouts and 3 walks in 5 appearances and 4 starts. d'Avoine (1-2) posts an ERA of 4.02 with 13 strikeouts and 7 earned runs in 15.2 innings. Beau Britton and Joe Fitka lead the bullpen. Britton has not allowed a run in four appearances and three strikeouts in five innings of work. Fitka has a 6.00 ERA through six innings with 12 strikeouts. Offensively, the Lakers are hitting .256 as a team driving in 81 of their 99 runs, and stealing 35 bags so far this season. BJ Johnson and Marcus Wohl lead the Lakers both hitting .357 on the year. Johnson has 10 stolen bases, 20 hits, 11 RBIs, and 1 double. Wohl is leading the team in on base percentage, getting on base 51.4% of the time.

Closer Trace Hoffman, who has not allowed a run in 13 appearances throughout 12.1 innings, leads Southeastern's pitching staff. The Blackhawks starters include Otis Roby and Tanner Foster. They combine for 53.1 innings pitched, 61 strikeouts, and having six wins on the season. Chase Wood and Oswaldo Calderon lead the team at the plate hitting .397 and .368. Wood and Calderon combine for 55 hits, 3 homeruns, 28 RBIs, 9 stolen bases, and 45 runs for the Blackhawks.

The Lakers will take on the Blackhawks at 1pm both Friday and Saturday for Iowa lakes first conference series on the year.
