Estherville, IA- Iowa Lakes baseball team took on Sioux Falls JV team Thursday night, managing to get two wins. The Lakers won the first game by a mercy rule of 11-0 and winning the second game 8-1.

Game one

Bo Lovdahl was first to get the Lakers on the board with a solo shot off the scoreboard. Connor Mitchel was up next and laced a single through the four-hole allowing Marcus Wohl to come up, who was later hit by a pitch. Grant Becher then walked. Mitchell scored on a base loaded fielder's choice from Spenser Larson to the short stop. BJ Johnson laid down a perfect squeeze bunt plating Wohl giving the Lakers their 3-0 lead in the 2^nd inning. The Lakers responded again with singles from Tavan Shahidi, Mitchell, and Wohl. Mitchell and Wohl both had RBIs on their single after a few passed balls and advancing on throws. Devon Munter pitched a strong four innings for the Lakers giving up one hit, two walks, and two strikeouts. Iowa Lakes added to their lead scoring two runs after Becher singled, stole second base, and advanced to third on a passed ball that force Johnson to walk and eventually steal second base. Bryce Rogokos hit Becher in and moved Johnson to third with a ground out to the second baseman. Shahidi hit an RBI single through the six-hole giving the Lakers a 7-0 lead into the fifth inning. Austin Simmons came in relief for Munter throwing a scoreless inning while striking out one. The Lakers put the nail in the coffin in the fifth after a lead-off pinch hit walk from Lucas Thorp, single to right field from Mitchell, RBI single from Wohl, Becher reached on an error by the second baseman, Larson sac bunted, and Nick Lovdahl pinch hit for Johnson and smoked a double over the left fielder's head giving the Lakers the 11-0 win.

Game two

Sioux Falls struck first in game two scoring their only run in the third inning off starter Paul Mudrow on an RBI single. Iowa Lakes responded quickly with a three-run home run from Connor Mitchell to centerfield. Mudrow finished the day with three innings pitched, one run, two strikeouts, and two walks. Bransen Petersen came on to pitch in the fourth throwing an inning of scoreless baseball and two strikeouts. The bats remained quiet for the Lakers. Beau Britton was called into the game and had a similar inning as Petersen's, pitching one inning with two strikeouts and no runs. The Lakers added a run in the bottom of the fifth when Mitchell was hit by a pitch and stole second base, later scoring on a wild pitch. Joe Fitka came on to pitch in the sixth inning for the Lakers, retiring the side in order striking out two. Iowa Lakes increased their lead with four runs from a walk, a hit by pitch, and here singles from Bline, Mitchell, and Deadwyler. Mitch Ebben pitched two thirds with two strikeouts and a walk, before Trae Ramsey was called in and threw to one hitter getting him to line out the second baseman.

Iowa Lakes improved to 8-17 on the season and will get ready to take on DMACC this Saturday and Sunday at home at 1 pm.
