Estherville, IA – Iowa Lakes baseball took on the Bears from Des Moines Area Community College at home on Saturday. Iowa Lakes fell in game one 2-1, but triumphed in game two winning 4-3. Iowa Lakes improved to 9-18 (1-5 ICCAC) on the year.

Game One

Battling the wind, both teams were in a pitching duel from the get go. Starter Marcel d'Avoine, pitched six plus inning giving up two runs in the seven-inning affair.  Iowa Lakes was down 1-0 before Tavan Shahidi drove in BJ Johnson with an RBI double to right center to tie the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning. Iowa lakes could not get anything going offensively for the rest of the game causing them to fall 2-1 in the opening game against DMACC. Key notes- Beau Briton came in relief throwing one inning allowing a sacrifice fly that drove in the go ahead and game winning run in the top of the seventh.

Game Two

The Lakers scored first going up 1-0 when Shahidi got on because of an error by the third baseman allowing Johnson to score from third who also reached on an error earlier in the first inning. The Bears quickly got the run back scoring one in the top of the second inning. The Bears added another run later in the game taking the lead 2-1, but the Lakers responded quickly. Stringing back to back singles together from Mikey Adams and Bo Lovdahl allowed N. Lovdahl to reach base after a throwing error on the third baseman occurred in the 5^th . This drove scored Adams from second tying the game at two. The very next inning the Lakers added two more to their lead. It started with Johnson doubling down the left field line and Alex Bline singled trying to sacrifice bunt him over to third. Johnson scored on a balk that was issued to the pitcher. Adams drove in Bline in with a single to right center plating their 4^th and final run of the game. The Bears added a run in the seventh inning cutting the Laker's lead to one. Mitch Sparks started for the Lakers and threw seven and two thirds innings allowing three runs. Drew Grubb came out to relieve Sparks, throwing one and on third innings and picking up his first save on the year.

 The Lakers will continue the series on Sunday April 9 at Hess-Limberg field in Estherville at 11 am.
