Baseball picksup two wins over Ontario

Estherville, IA- Iowa Lakes hosted Team Ontario on Thursday April 13 at Hess-Limberg Field. Iowa Lakes picked up two wins, winning game one 12-3 and game two 18-0.

Game one

 Iowa Lakes got on top early scoring two runs on hits from BJ Johnson and Tavan Shahidi. In the second inning, the Lakers added two more on a walk from Grant Becher, a triple from Spenser Larson, and an RBI groundout to the short stop from Jonson. With the Lakers up 4-0, Team Ontario started coming back plating three runs off starter Austin Simmons in the third. Iowa Lakes answers back quickly adding four more runs to their lead in the bottom half of the third inning. Following a single and a stolen base from Bo Lovdahl, Shahidi recorded his first triple of the year scoring Bo Lovdahl from second. Jordan Deadwyler grounded out so Shahidi could score. Chad Hinkle came up and roped a single to right field and Grant Becher drove a double down the left field line to extend the Laker lead. Larson came up and singled to right field scoring Becher making the score 8-3. Bo Lovdahl hit his third home run on the season extending the lead to six. Simmons threw for five innings, striking out five and allowing three earned runs. Bransen Petersen came in and pitched a scoreless sixth inning and striking out two. Iowa Lakes scored their last three runs in the bottom of the sixth reaching on back to back errors, a walk, and then a two RBI single from Becher and an RBI groundout from Larson. Dylan Klein pitched the last inning for the Lakers throwing a scoreless inning with one walk and one strikeout.

Game two

Game two was all Iowa Lakes. The Lakers went on to win 18-0. The Lakers offensively, had 14 hits, 9 walks, and 2 hit by pitches. Nine of the ten hitters that came to the plate in the game recorded a hit, including 5 doubles and 11 singles. Doubles came from Shahidi (2), Johnson, Mitchell, and pinch hitter Joe Fitka. The Lakers scored three in the first inning, five in the third inning, and ten in the bottom of the fourth. The Laker's pitching staff was led by Zach Meyer who threw three scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Trae Ramsey finished the game throwing two innings allowing three hits, one strikeout, and no runs.

Iowa Lakes improved to 13-20 on the season and will host NIACC in a conference series over Easter weekend with games starting Saturday night at 5 pm and Monday at 2pm.
