Baseball Loses Two at Kirkwood

Cedar Rapids, IA – Iowa Lake's baseball team travelled down for a conference series against the Eagles of Kirkwood Community College. The Lakers fell in both games losing game one 4-0 and losing game two 6-1.

Game one

The Eagles started off the game with two run lead plating two runs on a double and an error. Starter Marcel d'Avoine didn't let the Eagles have much else throwing a complete game for the Lakers. d'Avoine finished the day with six innings pitched allowing two earned runs of the four, striking out four, and zero walks.

The offense couldn't get anything going all game. Iowa Lakes only had five hits in the game with two of them coming from center fielder Ashtin Moxey. Moxey was two for three with two stolen bases. Sophomore Connor Mitchell and freshman Tavan Shahidi and Bo Lovdahl each recorded singles in game one.

Game two

Iowa Lakes was down early again to the Eagles allowing four runs on four hits and two errors. The next run for the Eagles came in the fifth inning off a triple and an RBI double increasing their lead to five. Starter Mitch Sparks, threw six innings allowing three earned runs, one strike out, and two walks. Beau Britton came on for one inning in relief leaving the Eagles scoreless and striking out one. Joe Fitka came in the 8th inning throwing one inning allowing one run, one walk, one hit, and one strikeout.

The Lakers bats were quiet in game two only recording five hits as well. Two hits came in the last inning where the Lakers managed to score a run off a sacrifice fly from Bo Lovdahl. Freshman, Nick Lovdahl had two hits in the game. Shahidi, Mikey Adams, and Moxey also had singles throughout the game.

Iowa Lakes drops to 14-27 on the year. The Lakers will take on the Eagles again tomorrow at Kirkwood's baseball field in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at 1 pm.
