Baseball Splits with Century

White Bear Lake, MN- The Iowa Lake's baseball team travelled north to play in a non-conference double-header with the Woodducks of Century Community College. Iowa Lakes fell in game one 3-0 and won in game two 6-2.

Game one

A pitching duel started the game for both teams. Devon Munter was on the hill for the Lakers and threw the first two innings scoreless. The first Woodduck run came in the bottom of the third inning after a walk and a costly bad read from the left fielder allowing a run to score with two outs on a routine fly ball. The last two runs from century came in the third inning on a walk, two errors, and a single. Defensive mistakes and no offensive production cost the Lakers the game. Devon Munter threw a complete game allowing one earned run, four strikeouts, three walks, and four hits. The Lakers had three hits in game one. A single from Ashin Moxey and doubles from Joe Fitka and Mikey Adams.

Game two

Century was on the board in the bottom of the first scoring one after back to back doubles from the first two hitters off Zach Meyer. The offense came out of hibernation in the second inning plating three runs on back to back doubles from Tavan Shahidi and Adams. Adams knocked in Shahidi. Moxey then laced a single to left center and advanced to second on a wild pitch, which also scored Adams. Grant Stevenson drew a walk and stole second allowing Moxey to advance home on the throw giving the Lakers a 3-1 lead. Later in the fifth inning, Shahidi stepped up to the plate after a single from Marcus Wohl and a double from Bo Lovdahl and hit his sixth home run of the season over the left field fence making it 6-1 Iowa Lakes. The Last run of the game came from the Woodducks in the bottom of the seventh off a slew of singles on Mitch Ebben. The staff had a good outing with Meyer starting the game throwing two innings allowing one run, three strikeouts, one walk, and four hits. Beau Britton threw three scoreless facing ten hitters not allowing a hit, striking out one, and walking one. Fitka also threw a scoreless inning striking out two batters and walking one. Ebben finished the game allowing one run on three hits and one strikeout.   

Iowa Lakes improves to 17-32 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow in Sioux Falls against Sioux Falls JV at 5:30.
