Baseball Sweeps Sioux Falls JV

Sioux Falls, SD- The Baseball team from Iowa Lakes travelled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to take on the Cougars of Sioux Falls JV team.  The Lakers won both games in two seven inning affairs, winning game one, 7-3 and winning game two, 12-6.

Game one

Laker's starter Trae "Rebel" Ramsey threw a complete game allowing three runs, six hits, and striking out one. Ramsey's effort was supported by the Laker's offense producing seven runs on ten hits. Ashtin Moxey lead the team with three hits and four RBIs, being a home run shy of the cycle. Grant Becher was two for four on the day with two singles. Alex Bline had a double with a pair of RBIs while Joe Fitka, Nick Lovdahl, and Connor Mitchell each recorded a single aa their one hit in the game. The "Rebel" Ramsey's runs came in the fifth and sixth inning on three singles, an error, and a sacrifice fly. Ramsey picked up his first win on the season and helped the Laker's get their 18th win on the year.

Game two

 Iowa Lakes struck first after Becher roped a double to left center, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch.  Sioux Falls evened up the scored plating a run after a walk, a double, and a sacrifice fly out on starter Dylan Klein. The Cougars took the lead adding a run in the second inning after a lead-off walk and a costly error committed by the shortstop. Becher got a rally going again in the third inning after walking, Fitka reached on an error, and Tavan Shahidi was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Moxey continued to drive runners in after his four RBI game in game one by driving in two more with a double to right center. Moxey then stole third and scored after another error was committed and giving the Lakers a 4-2 lead. Iowa Lakes continued to have good at bats in the fourth inning scoring five runs on four singles from BJ Johnson, Fitka, Nick Lovdahl, and Marcus Wohl, two hit by pitches, and two walks. Sioux Falls scored two more on Klein in his fourth and last inning of the game allowing two hits, a fielder's choice, and a walk. Klein finished the day with four innings, four hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Shahidi drove in Fitka on a double to centerfield extending the Laker lead to six. Bransen Petersen came in to pitch and threw the last three of the allowing a run in the bottom of the fifth on three back to back to back singles and a walk. Adding two more in the top of the seventh, Iowa Lakes had Becher walk, Fitka hit a single, Shahidi was it by a pitch, Stevenson and Nick Lovdahl walked to plate two runs making it 12-5. Petersen went and threw the last inning allowing one run on a walk, a wild pitch, and a single to right field.

Iowa Lakes advances to 19-32 on the season and will travel to Iowa Central to take on the Tritons in their last conference series in the regular season on Friday, May 5th at 2 pm.
