Baseball Fights, but Comes Up Short Against Iowa Central.

Fort Dodge, IA- Iowa Lakes played in their second day of double headers with Iowa Central at Iowa Central today falling in a close game one 8-7 and losing game two in seven innings 10-2.

Game One

The Lakers jumped off to an early lead scoring two runs on a single from Marcus Wohl, Tavan Shahidi reaching on an error, and a two RBI single from Joe Fitka. Mikey Adams kept it going in the top of the second inning hitting a solo homerun to left center increasing the Laker lead to three. Iowa Central responded back in the third plating five runs on five hits, three walks, and a sacrifice fly. Both the team's offenses were quieted down until Iowa Central scored two runs in the fifth inning off Zach Meyer on one hit, two walks, one hit by pitch, and two sacrifice flies taking the lead 7-5. Iowa Lakes was not out just yet, plating four runs and tying the game in the sixth inning. The rally started after Ashtin Moxey walked allowing Adams to hit a double to right center to score Moxey from first base. Nick Lovdahl and Spenser Larson both drew walks before BJ Johnson reached on an error by the shortstop to keep the bases loaded. Bo Lovdahl stepped up and hit a deep fly ball to the warning track, scoring his twin brother from third, moving Larson to third, and tying the game up at seven. Leaving the game tied did not last long after a lead-off double and a full count single scoring the go ahead run off reliever Beau Britton. Iowa Lakes couldn't get anything going in the top of the seventh and losing 8-7.        

Drew Grubb started the game throwing three and two-thirds innings allowing 3 runs, 5 hits, and striking out 3. Zach Meyer threw 1.1 innings giving up one hit, two runs, three walks, and one hit by pitch. Beau Britton finished the game with 1 inning pitched and allowing one run on two hits.   

Game Two

Iowa Central stole the show in game two beating Iowa Lakes 10-2 on a mercy rule in seven innings. Five of their ten runs came in the second inning off starter Martin Eckard, who allowed three doubles, two singles, and two walks. Iowa Lakes only two runs came off the bat of Chad Hinkle who hit his first homerun of the year plating Nick Lovdahl who earlier singled to left making it 5-2 Iowa Central. Eckard pitching into the fourth allowed three unearned runs allowing two hits, a walk, and having a costly two out error on the second baseman. Mitch Ebben came in to face one hitter and caused him to flyout to end the fourth. Iowa Lakes offense was quiet the rest of the game. Mitch Ebben pitched two more innings allowing two runs after a double, later advancing on a wild pitch and scoring on a ground out, before allowing a solo homerun over the left field foul pole in the sixth. Lakers couldn't score anyone in the seventh, thus falling to the mercy rule.

Spenser Larson was 3-3 with three singles in the game. Nick Lovdahl was 1-2 with a single and a run scored.  Chad Hinkle was 1-3 with a homerun and two RBIs.

Iowa lakes finishes the regular season 19-36 (3-21 ICCAC) and will be taking on Ellsworth Thursday, May 11th in the play in conference playoffs game at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo, Iowa with first pitch being thrown at noon.
