Lakers Drop Opening Two Games At Kirkwood CC

The Lakers would open up their series against Kirkwood Community College Sunday afternoon on a brisk 42 degree day, where game one would turn out to be a pitchers dual to its finest. Sophomore pitcher Evan Sankey (Appleton, Wisconsin) dominated the Eagles hitters with 5 perfect innings of work before running into some trouble in the sixth inning, while Jackson Bennett of Kirkwood would match him going the first 6 innings allowing 1 Laker hit. The Kirkwood offense would strike for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the Eagles up 5-0 heading into the top of the 7th inning, Sophomore first baseman Jayden Adrians (Green Bay, Wisconsin) would get the Lakers rally started with a solo homerun to left field, which was then followed up by a Andrew Eskens ( Lincoln, Nebraska) walk , a wild pitch would follow, a Dean Bedell (Treynor, Iowa) fly out to move Eskens to third who would come home on a wild pitch to score the Lakers second run of the inning. However, the Lakers rally would fall short as the 5 run deficit would be too much to overcome. Kirkwood would win by a final of 5-2.

In game two, Iowa Lakes would strike first when Marcus Pronay (Innisfil, Ontario) would lead the game off with a single to centerfield. Pronay would then steal second base and advance to third on the over throw to second base. Pronay would eventually touch home plate on a wild pitch which would give Iowa Lakes the 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first inning where Kirkwood would match with one run in their half of the inning. The Eagles lineup would take advantage of a few mistakes by freshman pitcher Frankie Cresta (Johnston, Iowa). This would open up the lead to 5-1 after three innings worth of play. The Eagles would tack on, scoring 4 more in the fourth inning after Cresta was pulled following a leadoff walk and Chris Isensee (Shakopee, Minnesota) would come on to relieve. Kirkwood would add one more run for insurance in the sixth, to cap off a 10-1 Eagle victory. Dean Bedell (Treynor, Iowa) would lead the Lakers with 2 hits on the day.

Iowa Lakes (9-7, 1-5 ICCAC) will finish off their 4 game set Monday at Kirkwood starting at 1 pm. Follow the Lakers all season long on twitter @Lakers_Baseball.
