’05-’06 Women’s Golf

Char attended Iowa Lakes fall of 2005 to winter 2006. While here she competed in the national championship as an individual in Daytona Beach Florida- placing 19th.

She was a two sport athlete, spending most of her time with her teammates on the court/course and off; which is why she stays in touch with some of them still today, even after being done with college for many years.  She has also kept in touch with Coach Dan Soper and Nate Hansen (her coach at nationals), as they made the biggest impact on her during her time as a Laker.

Coach Soper had many good things to say about Char. "I had the privilege of coaching many fine young ladies at Iowa Lakes and Char Cruchelow is at the top of this list. She was a very hard worker and had a tremendous mental toughness on the golf course. I will always remember in 2006 at Regionals in Marshalltown when her toughness was on full display. It was a constant cold rain the entire day and she didn’t complain one bit, went about her business and earned a spot in the national tournament. She went on to Daytona Beach for nationals and showed her true talents finishing one spot out of earning All American honors which is a tremendous accomplishment for a player from the northern states. Her family support was just outstanding like many players in our program. Above all, she is an outstanding person who I am humbled to be able to be a part of her life.” Her favorite thing about Iowa Lakes is the fact that she met her boyfriend of 6 years, Jeremy Witte, while attending! They now have a daughter, Marree, who is two years old.

She was a Graphic Design Major at Iowa Lakes then moved on to continue her education at William Woods University where she received her Bachelor of Science, also, in Graphic Design.

While at William Woods, Char was again a standout athlete.  She was a three-time first team All-Conference, for the American Midwest Conference; was a member of the conference championship team for three years; and was a member of three NAIA National Championship teams- placing 8th in 2007, 16th in 2008, and 16th in 2009.

Here are some of the records she still holds at William Woods; first in single season counting scores – 24/24 100%; ninth for low score through 36 holes- 148 four over par; tenth for low score through 18 holes- 73 one over par; tenth in career scoring average- 84.1; and tenth in career counting scores- 45 81.8%.

Char is currently living is West Des Moines working two jobs and raising her daughter. She works at Apple and Sugar Creek Golf Course. Her love for golf has become her profession. She tends to keep busy with everything she does, but still finds time to play a little golf- competing in a few tournaments a year.

Congratulations Charleen Cruchelow on being named to the First Ever Laker Hall of Fame.
