Al Bolty ’66-’68 Baseball, Basketball & Football

Al knew he was going to attend Estherville Junior College because he was from Estherville. Al was born and raised here, so knowing Estherville well made attending college at EJC comfortable and enjoyable for him.  This school also gave him the best opportunity to play all three sports and the academics would challenge him for the classes he would take at Iowa State University.

Coach Al Limberg and Coach Arnie Menning had a big impact on Al while attending Estherville Junior College.

While attending Estherville Junior College for his Liberal Arts degree, Al found success in baseball, basketball, and football. He was named Honorable Mention All Tri-State Conference Quarterback, All-Conference Centerfielder, and was captain of the baseball team. He also had a season batting average of .400 in 1968.

Al believes that Estherville Junior College was a great fit for him because it was a great transition from high school to a 4 year school. EJC was comfortable, but also challenged him and gave him the best opportunity to continue to play all three sports.

After graduating from Estherville Junior College, Al transferred to Iowa State University to play baseball. While there, his team finished 5th at the College World Series, he was named Academic All-American Honorable Mention, and was captain of the team. After graduation, Al was invited to try out for the Minnesota Twins.

Al currently is retired and living in Tucson, Arizona with his wife Rita.

Al would like to start by thanking his mother Helen. She passed away last June and would have loved to be here today. She would be very proud of Al. He would also like to thank his wife, who is in attendance tonight, and his brother, John, sisters, Paula, Janet, and Bobbi, who are also in attendance. His sister, Caryle, couldn't be here tonight, but he would also like to thank her. Finally, he would like to thank his uncle Bill Holsclaw and his wife Rosa.

Congratulations Al Bolty on being named to the Laker Hall of Fame.
