Albert Lee Brown ’82-’84 Football

Albert attended Iowa Lakes Community College because he was looking for a school that fit his skill set. Albert was a wide receiver, so he wanted to be sure that he would make an impact at the school he decided to play for.

Albert not only made a name for himself at Iowa Lakes Community College, but also on the teams following graduation. While at ILCC, Albert was named 1984 Offensive MVP, was an Honorable Mention selection, and rushed for 1,344 yards. Albert also played basketball here, earning Best 6th Man in the conference honors. After graduation, Albert attended Western Illinois University to play football. He was named 2nd Team All-Conference and rushed for 1,139 yards. Albert’s playing career did not end here though. He then joined the Saskatchewan Rough Riders in the Canadian Football League for 10 years. While there he helped his team win the 1989 Grey Cup and was selected to the Western All-Star team. In 1995, Albert was inducted into the Saskatchewan Hall of Fame. Again, Albert was not ready to give up football. He was the Iowa Blackhawks Head Coach for one year, the Omaha Beefs Offensive/Defensive Line Coach for 3 years, and owner of the Omaha Tornadoes for 1 year.

Albert’s fondest memory of Iowa Lakes comes on a day he was trying to skip class. He and his friends decided they did not want to go to class that day, but his professor had other ideas. She found Albert and brought him to class. She knew that Albert had a future and wanted to make sure that he lived up to his potential.

Bob Grems and John Walz had an impact on Albert while attending Iowa Lakes, but the most influential was his football coach, Coach Neibauer. He would sit down and talk about things with him. He was a father figure and helped Albert see where his future could go and how to succeed.

Albert is now coaching at Omaha Central High School. He is the receivers coach for a team that went 10-2 on the season. Albert also coaches basketball for a team that is currently 11-1.

He would like to thank all of his family and friends for supporting him throughout the years. He really appreciates everything that they have done for him.

Congratulations Albert Lee Brown on being inducted into the Iowa Lakes Hall of Fame.
