Dave Schacherer ’81-’83 Men’s Golf

Dave Schacherer attended Iowa Lakes Community College from 1981-1983, he will be going into the Hall of Fame for Men’s Golf.

After leading Estherville High School to a 1981 Class 2A State Championship, Dave, like his high school teammate Dan Soper chose to continue his golf career at Iowa Lakes.

Dave’s success continued as he led Iowa Lakes to the 1983 Conference Championship, with a 4 shot victory over NIACC.  He then led the team to the 1983 Region Championship, with a 6 shot victory over Indian Hills.  Dave tied for Region Medalist and helped to lead Iowa Lakes to their first National Tournament in 1983. At the national tournament, he was the only Laker to advance past the 36-hole cut and finished in a tie for 39th individually.

Former teammate and Iowa Lakes Head Men’s & Women’s Golf Coach Dan Soper had this to say about Dave, “Dave was a high school and college teammate and is a lifelong friend.  He led our teams to conference and state titles at both levels; a fearless and clutch performer on the golf course and a game that has stood the test of time.  Most importantly a loyal friend with great character.  I am very pleased that Iowa Lakes has recognized him with this prestigious honor that is so well deserved.”

Dave really appreciated the sense of team he found at Iowa Lakes.  His teammates were always there to support him but also to push him and make him better.  One of his lasting memories is the sense of camaraderie that he and his teammates shared.

After Iowa Lakes Community College, Dave transferred to the University of Iowa where he earned a degree in marketing, graduating in 1986. Dave and his wife live in the Chicago suburb of Lake in the Hills where he works as a salesman for a liquor distributor.

Congratulations Dave Schacherer on being inducted into the Iowa Lakes Hall of Fame.
