Lacey (Geitzenauer) Haynes ’03-’05 Women’s Basketball

Lacey (Geitzenauer) Haynes attended Iowa Lakes Community College from 2003-2005, she will be going into the Hall of Fame for Women’s Basketball.

Lacey was recruited by and played for Volleyball Coach Scott Tschetter at Iowa Lakes Community College.  Lacey chose Iowa Lakes because she fell in the love with the campus and community.  She also wanted to stay close to family and friends to enable them to attend games.  After her freshman season of volleyball, Lacey joined the basketball team as a walk-on.

She found much success while playing basketball at Iowa Lakes.  As a freshman, Lacey was named 2nd Team All-Region. As a sophomore, she was selected as an NJCAA 2nd Team All-American and 1st Team All-Region. In her sophomore season Lacey averaged 17 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 56% from the floor. Lacey scored 856 career points and grabbed 333 career rebounds.  She led her team to a 40-21 record as well as 2 third place conference finishes in her two seasons at Iowa Lakes.

Coach Brian Radtke had this to say about Lacey, "Lacey was a powerhouse for us inside for her 2 years at Iowa Lakes.  Her ability to seal off defenders and get around them to score looked effortless.  She also was able to keep the ball away from taller defenders and create space, so that she could score.  This led us to 40 victories in her two years, averaging 17 points her sophomore season and receiving 2nd Team All-American honors.  Lacey was hard working, team oriented, goal achieving and an honor to coach."

As successful as she was on the court, some of her fondest memories at Iowa Lakes come from her time outside of gym.  She maintains friendships with teammates Kayla Johnson, Tina Geisler, Erin McFadden, Angie Gotts, and Angie Hoff and enjoys reminiscing about the antics they engaged in while at Iowa Lakes.  Some of the more memorable pranks include those between the female and male athletes, which may have included the guys stealing all of our underwear and retaliation where we knocked on their dorm doors with garbage cans full of water leaned against them.  Another fond memory of Iowa Lakes is that the ladies in the cafeteria would make the best omelets on Fridays.  These were especially great after late nights on Thursdays.

Lacey was impacted by numerous people while at Iowa Lakes.  She appreciated the overall community, especially the coaching staff, her teammates, and other athletes on campus. Lacey had this to say about her experience, “It's like we were a big family. We always supported each other! I came from a small school, graduating with only 24 so I was really looking to find my place at Iowa Lakes and it was so easy, it felt like home.”

After graduating from Iowa Lakes, Lacey attended University of Nebraska Omaha on a basketball scholarship. She now is a business owner and Health and Wellness Coach with Thrive & Prime Nutrition-Herbalife. She attributes much of her success to her experiences as a student athlete saying, “This is truly and honor. My time at Iowa Lakes and being part of the basketball team has shaped me into who I am today. Today, I lead a team and coach clients on a daily basis. The skills that I have learned being a student athlete are without a doubt the reason I am where I am today!”

Lacey would like to thank her parents, Tome & Tamara Geitzenauer, the biggest supporters of her life and career. They have always pushed and encouraged her to be the best she can be. Her grandma and Aunt Kay have been her #1 fans her whole life. After heading to UNO after Iowa Lakes her parents and grandma would make the 4.5 hour drive to attend her games during the week. She would also like to thank her husband Nick Haynes who is so supportive of her past, present, and future.

Congratulations Lacey (Geitzenauer) Haynes on being inducted into the Iowa Lakes Hall of Fame.
