Lakers Sweep Mid Week Doubleheader With Beavers

Lakers Take Two from Buena Vista

 

Iowa Lakes traveled to Storm Lake to take on the Beavers of Buena Vista in their first weekday double header of the year. They swept the day winning the first game by a score of 3-1 and the second 12-2 in 6 innings. In game one, Iowa Lakes struck in the first inning with a Jimmy Mapakou (Vauréal, Île-de, France) walk and two stolen bases to get him to third. Chipper Holland (Tampa, Florida) singled to left to score Mapakou. Two batters later, Alex Pavon (Bellevue, Nebraska) tripled over the right fielders head to score Holland. In the second inning Devin Brackin (Tampa, Florida) led the inning off with a double over the center fielders head and was later scored on a Marcus Pronay (Innisfil, ON) single through the 5-6 hole to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead.

The early 3-0 advantage turned out to be enough as Austin Charboneau (Idaho Falls, Idaho) got his first start as a Laker and took full advantage of it going 3 innings pitched with 7k's and 0 hits. Four other Lakers got the call in game one. Andrew Eskens (Lincoln, Nebraska) went 1 scoreless inning with 1 strikeout and 0 hits, Brendan Gartzka had 1 2/3 innings pitched with 2k's allowing 1 run, Chris Isensee (Shakopee, Minnesota) tallied a k with 1 batter faced, and Lucas Gardner (Estherville, Iowa) had 1 inning pitched with 1 K for his 4th save of the season ranking 7th nationally.  The pitching staff for Iowa Lakes had 12 srikeouts and a combined no hitter giving the Lakers a 3-1 victory.

The Iowa Lakes offense exploded for 12 runs in game two. After an early 2-0 deficit, the scoring started in the third inning with a Austen Daliet (New Orleans, Louisiana) double followed by a Jimmy Mapakou double as well and later scoring on a passed ball to knot the game at 2. The offense did not stop. Chipper Holland led the inning off with a triple and scored on a Devin Brackin double. Brackin would score on error tacking onto the lead and making it 4-2 Lakers. Iowa Lakes kept the foot on the gas, tacking on 4 in the 5th inning. The fifth was led off by Beau Sackett (Malcolm, Nebraska) double and was scored by a Eskens single to right. Austen Daliet would later single in the inning and score from a Mapakou triple, who would later score on a passed ball giving Iowa Lakes a 8-2 lead. The 6th inning was the same story. Sackett lead the inning off with a double and a stolen base, then was followed by a Eskens walk. Holland singled to left scoring Sackett. Jayden Adrians (Green Bay, Wisconsin) would hit into a Fielders choice to score Eskens and Holland, and Austen Daliet would walk and score on a past ball to put the Lakers up 12-2. The Lakers tallied 5 doubles and 2 triples in game two of the series. 

It was another combined effort for the Lakers in game two. Tyler Shafer (Nevada, Iowa) got the start and went 3 innings giving up 2 runs and striking out 3. Jacob Buffington (Bogart, Georgia) and Chris Isensee both went 1 inning pitched with Isensee striking out 2 as both went scoreless innings. Kade Delcambre (Lake Charles, Louisiana) shut the door for the Lakers going 1 inning striking out 1 and giving up 0 runs in his collegiate debut. This gave Iowa Lakes the 12-2 mercy rule win in 6 innings.
