Lakers Split with Blue Knights

The Iowa Lakes Community College baseball team traveled to Rosemount, Minnesota to take on the DCTC Blue Knights in a mid-week matchup.  After allowing a 3 run outburst in the bottom of the first, the Laker offense came alive in game 1 scoring 18 runs. The scoring started in the 2nd inning when Devin Brackin (Tampa, Florida), Dean Bedell (Treynor, Iowa) and Alex Pavon (Bellevue, Nebraska) all reached on walks to load the bases up. Austen Daliet (New Orleans, Louisiana) would rope a double in to the right center gap to score 2 runs. Marcus Pronay (Innisfil, Ontario) would come up with two runners on and would bring them both home on a single up the middle. Pronay would reach second base on a passed ball and would score on a Chipper Holland (Tampa, Florida) single to right field to make the score 5-3. DCTC would tack on runs more in the 2nd and 3rd to make it 5-5 going into the top of the 4th. Iowa Lakes would score 3 more runs in the top of the 4th, starting with Jimmy Mapakou (Vauréal, Île-de, France) as he would get a hold of one and hit it over the right fielders head for a triple. Pronay would come up next and single up the middle to score Mapakou from third. Andrew Eskens (Lincoln, Nebraska) would walk to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Eskens and Pronay would both steal. Pronay would later come into score on a passed ball and Eskens would move up. Jayden Adrians (Green Bay, Wisconsin) would hammer a ball into the wind to deep left field to score Eskens from third on a sac fly to make the score 8-5. After another run in the 4th for DCTC, Iowa Lakes would score 2 more runs in the 5th to add to the lead and make it 10-6 going into the 6th.  Iowa Lakes would explode for 8 runs in the 6th inning. It started off with an Adrians single to left field and he would advance to second base on a passed ball. Bedell would single to center field to bring home Adrians. Pavon would reach on a single to right field to advance the runner. Mapakou would walk to load the bases and Pronay would get an RBI walk to bring in Bedell. Eskens would single to right to bring in two more runs. Holland would add on to the runs with a double to right field to bring in Eskens. Adrians would come up once again the 6th and single to left field and bring in another run to make it 17-6. Mason Mower (Lincoln, Nebraska) would drive in Adrians to give the Lakers a 18-6.

 

Jacob Buffington (Bogart, Georgia) would go a complete game, striking out 4 batters and allowing 4 earned runs and getting his first collegiate win as a Laker.

 

Game two showed to be a pitcher's duel as the Lakers fell behind 3-0 in the 3rd and could not complete the comeback falling 4-1. Iowa Lakes only tallied 1 run. The lone run came in the 6th when Pronay would reach with a walk and would advance to second on a passed ball. Adrians would hit into a fielder's choice and move Pronay to third. Holland singled to bring in Pronay to give the Lakers their lone run in game 2.

 

Tyler Shafer (Nevada, Iowa) would get the start for Iowa Lakes. Shafer would go 3 1/3 innings with 2ks with an earned run. Chris Isensee (Shakopee, Minnesota) would come in and pitch and would go 1 2/3 innings. Austin Charboneau (Idaho Falls, Idaho) would come in for 1 inning and strike out 2 batters.
