Bats Come Alive as Lakers Sweep Beavers

The Buena Vista Beavers traveled to Estherville, Iowa to take on the Lakers in a mid-week showdown. Game one proved to be a slugfest as Buena Vista started the scoring early, as they capitalized on Laker mistakes and walk to put them up 7-0 after the first inning. Iowa Lakes crossed there first run across the board in the 2nd inning when Andrew Eskens (Lincoln, Nebraska) would single to left field followed by a Alex Pavon (Bellevue, Nebraska) walk. A wild pitch would allow both runners to advance up into scoring position. Austen Daliet (New Orleans, Louisiana) would hit a ball to third base that would score Eskens. The Beavers would get two more runs in the 3rd to make it 9-1, but the Iowa Lakes offense would explode for 7 runs. The scoring started when Spencer Keane (Palm Springs, California) single to the left side and a wild pitch put him at second base. Jimmy Mapakou (Vauréal, Île-de, France) would rope a ball into the left field gap to score Keane and get into scoring position. Jayden Adrians (Green Bay, Wisconsin) single to center brought home Mapakou to make the score 9-3. The Lakers were not done yet as Devin Brackin (Tampa, Florida) and Daliet walk put runners back in scoring position. Marcus Pronay (Innisfil, Ontario) doubled into left center to bring home two more to cut the score to 9-5 Beavers. Keane would tally another walk and Mapakou would bring home Pronay and Keane on a single through the 5-6 hole. Chipper Holland (Tampa, Florida) singled to right field to bring home another Laker and make the score 9-9. Iowa Lakes tacked on one more led off by a Brackin double and a Eskens Sac bunt moved Brackin up to second. Pavon would bring home Brackin on an RBI to third base to give the Lakers a 10-9 lead. Iowa Lakes would hold that lead the rest of the game and win the first game of the double header.

 

Peter Timchal (Lakeland, Florida) was lights going 5 innings and 6 strikeouts and allowing 2 runs zero earned. Kade Delcambre (Lake Charles, Lousiana) would come in and go 1 inning striking out 1 batter. Evan Sankey (Appleton, Wisconsin) shut the door going one innings striking out one.

 

In game two the Lakers struck first when Mapakou doubles to left and stole third, Holland would single to right field to bring in Mapakou to make it 1-0 Iowa Lakes. Iowa Lakes tacked on 3 more runs when Holland single to short right field followed up by an Adrians walk as well as a Mason Mower (Lincoln, Nebraska) walk. A basesd loaded wild pitch would bring home a Laker run, Pavon would single to left to bring home Adrians and another wild pitch brought home the third run of the inning to make it 4-0 Lakers. A Mapakou walk would starting the 6th off and next batter Holland would cut the wind and put a ball over the score board to make it 6-0 Lakers going into the 7th where the Laker bullpen would shut the door and earn a mid-week sweep of Buena Vista.

 

Logan Ferguson (Idaho Falls, Idaho) would pitch one inning in the start striking out one batter. Pronay would come in a throw one inning striking out two batters in his college debut on the mound. Delcambre would come in again except from the other side fanning two batters of his own and Chris Isensee (Shakopee, Minnesota) threw two innings giving up zero runs and striking out one. Pavon came in and shut the door striking out two batters and giving up one run.
